Jim Jaracz joined the northwest Indiana fire service in 1989.  He served in several positions on volunteer, full-time and industrial fire departments, but the majority of his career was spent leading the fire prevention bureau in Hobart. 

Jim retired in 2013 and now provides professional development training and consultation focusing on fire protection, occupational safety and hazardous materials.  He has been instructing and developing training programs at the National Fire Academy since 1999.  Jim currently serves on the NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plans Examiner, and NFPA 1037, Standard on Professional Qualifications for Fire Marshal committees and is a member of the NFPA Certification Advisory Group. He holds several national-level fire and safety related certifications and earned a Master of Science degree in occupational safety at Indiana State University.
